This holy theertha is found it’s rendering in the Vedas and it is believed that Akasa Ganga Teertham originates from the lotus feet of the main deity. This sacred torrent gains predominance over the others since all the rituals are conducted with the holy waters of this theertha. In the early days, the priestess took turns to carry the water all the way from this part of jungle to the temple in the morning hours by the rough walk path that meanders through the forest even to this day. After the Tirumala Tirupati Devsthanam came into existence, water lines were laid into the temple and thus simplified!
Bathing in this water is really refreshing and is said to wash away the evils and confer good fortune. There is a platform built by the temple governance where the running water is diverted for devotees to take the water first in hand. Every pilgrim visiting Tirupati must and should visit this place.
The best time for visiting this place is during the rainy season, this place looks even more beautiful with greenery around and with white water gushing out of the rocks.
HOW TO REACH AKASHA GANGA THEERTHAM?
- Some of the interesting places on Tirumala Hills like Gogarbham, Papavinasanam, Venugopala Temple are located on the way to Akasha Ganga Theertham. Pilgrims can visit these places taking an APSRTC bus or a Taxi.
- On an APSRTC return ticket (present fare Rs. 8/- valid for 5 hours) pilgrims can alight enroute at any place of their choice, catch another bus and proceed to the next destination on the same ticket.
- APSRTC buses are available from Kalyani Choultry near CRO from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day with a twenty minute frequency.
- Taxis operate at a two-way fare of Rs. 25/- to Rs. 35/- per person for the two hour trip.
